From 23rd to 26th May, the Basque Government and SPRI have organised a business mission to South Africa led by the Economic Development and Competition Counsellor, Arantxa Tapia, where representatives from different Basque Energy Cluster companies took part.

On 23rd and 25th May the Basque representatives held meetings with the managers of the most relevant South African bodies and companies: ESKOM (the South African public electricity utility, IPP Unit (public authority managing permits for renewable energy producers), Standard Bank (main finance institution in South Africa) and Sasol (oil and natural gas operator).

On Tuesday 24th a session discussing the opportunities offered by South Africa in the energy sector and in particular the development of wind and solar power was held. Government and business representatives from South Africa as well as the Basque Energy Cluster, Sener and Gestamp representatives participated in this event demonstrating the capacity of Basque companies in wind and solar value chains.

The Basque Energy Cluster showcased companies already operating in South Africa and highlighted the South African Government energy development plans which offer a major investment and development opportunity. This will allow Basque companies to work close collaboration with local companies and contribute to the development of the energy sector in South Africa.

The following companies are taking part in the Basque Energy Cluster mission: ARTECHE, ELECNOR, GAMESA, GRI (Gestamp Renewable Industries), IBERDROLA INGENIERÍA Y CONSTRUCCIÓN, INGETEAM POWER TECHNOLOGY, INGETEAM POWER PLANTS, INTZA, ORMAZABAL and SENER.
