Submitted by Ariadna Detrell on 10 April 2017

On 30th and 31st of March, the annual conference of the European Textile Technology Platform took place in Brussels.

The event was attended by more than 170 professionals in the sector and its focus was "Textile research in Horizon 2020".

As in the previous editions, AEI Tèxtils, the Catalan Technical Textiles Cluster, was present at the event. On the 30th, within the "Sustainability - Resource Efficiency" session, Dr Ariadna Detrell, its cluster manager, presented the MIDWOR-LIFE project.

MIDWOR-LIFE aims to mitigate the environmental, health and safety impacts of current Durable Water and Oil Repellents (DWOR) and future alternatives by analysing their environmental impact and technical performances in order to assess manufacturers on the best available technologies to provide repellency to liquids on textiles. It is co-funded by the LIFE+ Programme.

Within the same session, Dr Milena Tzvetkova, from LEITAT Technological Center (member of AEI Tèxtils), presented the results of ECOTEXNANO project, also cofounded by the LIFE+ Programme. The project, which finished on 31st March, had the aim to develop an innovative tool to improve risk assessment and promote the safe use of nanomaterials in the textile finishing industry. AEI Tèxtils has been a member of the project External Advisory Board.
