For Chacón, “in moments of high complexity like the current one, we need a joint, diverse action based on strategic change: this is the model on which clusters are fostered”

The 29 Catalan clusters are working on concrete initiatives to face the emergency caused by the Covid-19 in areas such as the production of medical equipment, cybersecurity and telework, home education, mental health in the context of confinement and feeding. These are the clusters that are part of the Catalonia Clusters program of ACCIÓ -the agency for the competitiveness of the company, depending on the Departament d’Empresa i Coneixement- which groups more than 2,600 companies and entities (such as universities and technology centers) and represent 30% of the GDP of Catalonia.

The consellera d’Empresa i Coneixement, Àngels Chacón, held a working meeting with the presidents of the 29 Catalan clusters to analyze the sectoral impact of the emergency situation caused by Covid-19. The meeting is part of the regular meetings that ACCIÓ maintains with the managers of the Catalan clusters to monitor the emergency situation caused by the coronavirus.

For the consellera d’Empresa i Coneixement, “clusters are a key tool in crisis situations, and now they are also with the Covid-19 emergency.” “In moments of high complexity like the current one, we need a joint, diverse action based on strategic change: this is the model in which clusters are fostered,” she says. According to Chacón, “now this need for change is manifesting more than ever, of joining efforts among multinationals, SMEs, startups, universities and technology centers to cooperate in transformative projects.” In this sense, “clusters are a determining environment to achieve it,” she underlines.

From the Packaging Cluster, various actions have been promoted to give support to member and the ecosystem that surrounds us, such as the recent distribution of 20,000 batches of food products to vulnerable people in the city of Barcelona. Font Packaging, Hinojosa Pacs, Saica Pack and DS Smith have contributed the 20,000 boxes and the necessary material, with the coordination of the Packaging Cluster, and Kao Chimigraf supports this action by joining it and donating its inks.
