About us
Zinnae, the Cluster for the efficient use of water, works to offer solutions to water security challenges in order to build a sustainable and resilient future, working under the principles of the circular economy and intelligent society.
Our strategy is based on the following axis:
- Working in four priority areas: Innovation; Business development; Public policies; Branding and leadership.
- Improving the competitiveness of Aragonese entities, being the engine of green job creation.
- Providing ideas and launching innovative projects to improve water cycle infrastructure; digital technologies for water services management; and the improvement of water resources governance.
ZINNAE Strategic Plan determines a four-year framework for the Cluster’s activities. ZINNAE Strategic Plan 2018 – 2021 is based on the following elements:
- ZINNAE’s Target groups: Business (Large, SME); RTD Centers; Public administrations; Consumers.
- Topics: Resilient Water infrastructures; Digital technology; Adaptative management and governance.
- Scope: Urban areas, Industry, Rural environment and water ecosystems.

Achievements
In December 2019 we collaborate in the organization of the Water Innovation Conference.
ZINNAE and the Aragonese Regional Government launched in October 2018 the Thematic Area “Water Smart Territories” for industrial modernisation, together with Centre Val de Loire (France) and Friesland (The Netherlands) in the framework of the Smart Specialization Platform.

ZINNAE gathers public and private entities of the water sector in Aragon Region (Spain). We facilitate public-private relationship to become an international collaboration, knowledge and innovation referent for an efficient and sustainable water use in urbanized areas as well as a driver of quality employment.

- Agrupaciones Empresariales Innovadoras (Spanish Ministry for Industry)
The programme for Support Innovative business associations and clusters from the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism (MINCOTUR) started in 2007 and participates in the European strategy for competitiveness support through innovative clusters creation and development. ZINNAE participates in this funding scheme since 2011. The list of funded projects are on the website, and have been focused on different water consumption areas towards resource efficiency schemes. The projects funded during the last 5 years are:
- Fit-Water: anaerobic wastewater treatment optimization for porcine industry (2015)
- SIGMA-R. Integral water management for rural areas (2015)
- Service Design for discharge real-time control and alarms (2017)
- SENSODES. Critical Sensoring needs in water and wastewater treatment processes in the industry (2017)
- SMAG. Analytical software for municipal water infrastructures (2017)
- DIGICAT. Digitalization of Agroindustry to optimize water management (2017)
- INDRISK. Digital platform to improve water security in the industry (2018)
- PIVER. Prediction of the impact of industrial wastewater discharges on rivers (2020)
- OXI-TWIN. Development of a digital twin and a 4.0 platform for digitalising a water treatment plant (2020)
- REURAL. Digitisation and nanotechnologies in rural areas (2020)
- SMART PUMPING. Smart additive management system to improve pumping efficiency in closed circuits (2020)
- AIPIA. Water cycle modelling of a pulp and paper industry using artificial intelligence (2020)

We are part of H2020-INNOSUP-01-2017 VIDA project (nº 777795), starting 2018 until 2021, that aims to support SME innovation through funding instruments to increase water-energy efficiency in agrofood areas through KETs. Total budget available for SME: 3.3 M €. https://vidaproject.eu/
- COSME - Clusters Go International (ESCP - 4i). Energy in Water
Energy in Water (EnW) is a European Strategic Cluster Partnership - Going International (ESCP-4i) which aims to identify potential market opportunities across the water-energy Nexus and support the internationalisation of SMEs within and beyond Europe. Seven research-driven clusters across the EU specialising in water and energy technology and innovation participate in the ESCP-4i: The Water Cluster (UK), Water Alliance (Netherlands), Clean (Denmark), ZINNAE (Spain), AVAESEN (Spain), CD2E (France) and Ea Ecoentreprises (France).

[email protected] is a FP7 project financed by "Regions of Knowledge" call of the European Union under Grant Agreement nº 32007. This project aims to develop a a network of regions that will set guidelines allowing to prioritize public financing of RDI in the use and efficient management of the water in urban environments.It started in 2013 and will last until June 2016, although the vocation of its members is to continue through several activities for soft-landing innovation services for its members. The European Commission has provided more than two million euros [email protected] project: European Water Efficiency in European Urban Areas, which will run for three years with the participation of a network of regions: Aragon, in Spain; Provence-Alpes - Côte dAzur, in France; the East of England, in the United Kingdom; Eastern Galilee, in Israel, and Malta.
