HOPE - How Oncogenetics Predicts & Educates-Promoters of advanced oncogenetics open online training and multimedia raise awareness on multidisciplinary assessment of patients and their families at risk of hereditary or familial cancer

Project scope: The aim of the project is to raise awareness of the importance of the existence and spread of oncogenetics as a discipline that depends on the progress in understanding the action of genes associated with hereditary susceptibility to malignancies

Success Story / Achievements:

Genetic Center is a company from Cluj-Napoca, opened in 2009. It was the second genetics laboratory established in Romania, and in 2017 it became the first specialized laboratory in the country, as a turnover. In 2016, following a research project on male infertility, the laboratory in Bucharest was opened. The services offered by the organization are complex, at present, in this laboratory pre- and post-natal tests are performed, as well as state-of-the-art oncological tests. Genetic Center is on the list of the most important and performing genetic analysis centers in Romania and covers 16 medical specialties and 100 types of analyzes through a team of 50 employees, being the laboratory with the largest palette of genetic tests performed internally. . Annually, 17,000 tests are performed at the Genetic Center.

The social impact of the initiative is strong. Based on extremely accurate tests, performed with ultraperforming equipment, future parents find out if the baby is at risk of Down syndrome - best known to the general public, but also Edwards syndrome, Patau syndrome, Turner syndrome, deafness, cystic fibrosis and other genetic abnormalities. . The clinic also comes in support of patients diagnosed with cancer, who offer genetic analyzes that clearly indicate the mutation undergone - the result allows patients to follow a personalized treatment, which contributes to the increase of life expectancy.

Starting with November 2017, Genetic Center Romania, together with Victoria Asanache, the only navigator of oncological patients in the country, with accreditation obtained in the USA, provides first consultations (guidance and support) to cancer patients calling on Genetic Center services.

Starting this year, GENETIC CENTER is part of the REGINA MARIA Health Network. Together, they continue to provide quality services, reaching a greater number of patients who need a high accuracy diagnosis for a wide range of types of analyzes. Also, GENETIC CENTER contributes to the sustainability of the cluster, having partnership agreements with several entities members of the cluster, as well as multiple expressions of interest in taking over the technology developed in the innovative projects written by them. Also, the objectives are aligned with the National Health Strategy 2014-2020 and make a significant contribution to the achievement of the OG.1 objective. Improving the health and nutrition of women and children.

ROHEALTH cluster has ensured the center's notoriety by promoting it at national and international events, conducting information activities on participating in events of interest for improving the services offered, news in the medical field, presenting adequate funding sources and improving the network of contacts of the center to the member. We also made recommendations to third parties.
