About us

Madan Parque is a science and technology park established in 1995, whose mission is to play an interface role between academia and businesses, by means of promoting the creation and growth of NTBFs and knowledge intensive projects within the region.

Madan Parque runs a technology-based incubator whose role is of a accelerator for its tenants. The main goal is to stimulate the creation of NTBFs of various scientific areas, benefiting from its physical proximity to FCT NOVA (Faculty of Sciences and Technology | NOVA University of Lisbon) which is Madan’s most important stakeholder.

The incubator offers a high range of value-added services, aiming at the growth and internationalisation of the supported NTBFs. Local innovation ecosystem comprises several actors and particularly UNINOVA, which is a research organisation with an extended expertise on Electronics & Telecommunications, ICTs & Management Systems, Robotics and Manufacturing. It is strongly affiliated to FCT NOVA and also a stakeholder of Madan Parque.

The experienced research teams of UNINOVA, as well as the proficiency of FCT NOVA’s Departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science have helped the incubator to nurture NTBFs whose core business relies on products and services based on ICTs.

70% of the current pool of tenant companies (52 as to this date) pertains to the ICT sector, although there are some other business sectors covered by the remainder companies that is:

1 - Renewable energies (consulting services);

2 - Social media and creative industries;

3 - Biotechnology;

Achievements

EXTERNAL RECOGNITION

Madan Parque was ranked the "3rd World Best Science-Based Incubator" back in 2011, in a competition promoted by an international consortium formed by Technopolicy GroupDeloitte and the Centre for Strategy and Evaluation Services (CSES). The criteria for the nomination cosisted of 4 different categories, that is: A) Economic efficiency of the incubator; B) Portfolio of services provided; C) Performance of tenant companies and D) Liaison with external partners.

SPIN-OFF COMPANY

S3 Portugal is one of our most promising spin-off companies. Its core business consists of the development of high performance integrated circuits. The original company was named Acacia Semiconductors, having emerged out of a research team affiliated to the Electrical Engineering Department @ FCT NOVA. The company was well ranked in the market and hence it was acquired at a later stage by a bigger company incorporated in Ireland. The later is named S3, which stands for Silicon Systems Software.

H2020 SME Instrument

There are 3 tenant companies of Madan Parque whose applications to 1st phase of H2020 SME Instrument were successful. It all started with the success of STAB Vida (a biotech spin-off), followed by YNvisible and more recently by Boereboom Invitro Portugal. Boereboom's application was draft with the support of our EU-projects team, being this fee-based service of the most sought-after by our tenants.
