Success Story / Achievements: 

Establishment of Kuopio Health Co-op., which is a joint venture of companies and public organizations. Kuopio Health labs and Kuopio Living Labs with various International and national projects. UEF-KUH-MSD Finland collaboration agreement. VTT investments to Kuopio branch and focus it to develop novel Digital Health solutions. The Headquarter of Neurocenter Finland locates in Kuopio. KUH investments to Microsurgery Center development.

Clinical research contributes to a better understanding of treatment and the development of new therapies. The Kuopio University Hospital offers access to clinical research with 800 hospital beds and over 5000 medical professionals, which dramatically cuts development and testing time for pharmaceuticals and medical technology solutions.

Data lake for qualified divers in platform service. A unique aspect of Kuopio’s data lake is integrated data from social care to basic and special health care. This data and analytics can be provided to various industries and customers. Companies from the Kuopio region offer cloud services as turnkey solutions for several industries: to support them and get them ready for the whole journey, from planning and assessing to design and implementation and all the way to maintenance and support. Currently, several development programs aim to promote development and implementation of health data-based technologies as well as to improve accessibility of R&D&I services and networks in the field of digital techologies. Also concept for testing new healthcare technology is being developed in Kuopio.

Functional foods and natural health products are emerging. Food Valley complements the Kuopio Health ecosystem expertise in that area. It supports services of food development and including smart specialization in new protein sources and gut health and fermentation. Food Valley’s regional network also includes specialization in vertical farming, berry production, and sustainable milk production.
