INDESCAT- Catalan Sports Cluster
Overview
About us
INDESCAT is the Catalan Sports Industry Cluster, a private entity led by companies, which was born in 2010 as a result of a strategic analysis on the Catalan sports sector driven by the "Sports General Secretary" of the Catalan Autonomous Government. The cluster’s mission is to bring together companies and research centres related to the world of sport, with the main objective of developing actions that improve companies’ competitiveness, encouraging the development of innovative products and services. INDESCAT means "Industry + Sport + Catalonia". INDESCAT has 80 members, whose turnover is over 1,500 million €. INDESCAT represents the whole sports industry in Catalonia, which is grouped into three major segments: sports products and services, sports facilities and sports events.

Achievements
- The sports practitioner study. Study co-funded by ACCIÓ and 14 sports companies based on a new approach to analyse the different profiles of sports practitioners. As the sports industry is consumer-oriented, having a deep knowledge of the sports practitioner is mandatory to develop new products and services. Any innovation should be closer to the market and the consumer needs. That is the reason why INDESCAT is developing a platform that will be the first sports consumer panel in Spain.
- “Best practices in internationalization for clusters”. Conclusions of the EU4SportsClusters project, a project co-funded by the European Commission and led by the Catalan Competitiveness Agency ACCIÓ, which has the participation of three European sports cluster organisations: INDESCAT from Spain, INNOSportNL from the Netherlands and SPORALTEC from France. The developed and tested internationalization methodology through clusters has been proven as one of the best methodologies for joint internationalization in terms of satisfaction and results. Following this methodology, two pilot missions were organised to Brazil and Russia, which enabled the participant companies to reach 5 commercial agreements.
- “The Sports Sector in Barcelona and Catalonia”. Publication that brings together ten reasons why Barcelona is the world sports capital with the main objective of fostering its visibility and international positioning within the sports industry.
- Support to the creation of the Barcelona Global Sport Management brand, a multidisciplinary team integrated by companies with a wide experience in the world of sports facilities that offer all kinds of sports and wellness turnkey solutions.
