Further information

The first stepping stone of the Basque Foundry Cluster took place with the creation in 1962 of the Foundry Association of Biscay, which lead to the geographical extension and foundation in 1978 of the Foundry Association of the Basque Country and Navarre (AFV) as a representative body, to manage and defend the common interests the Basque Foundry Sector.

In 1997, the Foundry Association of Catalonia (AFC), was adhered and the organisation grew nationwide and it was decided to set up a national organisation for the Foundry Sector; the Spanish Federation of Foundry Associations (FEAF), sharing offices economic and human resources.

FEAF is recognized by all Administrations as the representative of the Foundry Sector in Spain and is also member of the European Foundry Association (CAEF), umbrella organisation of the European foundry industry.

In 1985 FUNDIGEX was created by the foundries as a separate entity with the objective to enforce and boost the internationalisation of the Spanish foundry sector. Fundigex was thus and still is formally recognised by the Spanish Institute for Foreign trade and the Ministry of Industry Trade and Tourism as the official organism to represent the Spanish foundry sector in terms of Trade Policy and Foreign Trade.

Since the foundation FUNDIGEX, both entities have co-existed and cooperated throughout all years with the shared goal to lead and support the foundry sector in all its needs.

In 2008 AFV was formally recognized as a Pre-Cluster Association by the Department of Industry, Innovation, Commerce and Tourism of the Basque Government. In 2015, the Basque Government and SPRI (the Basque business development agency)decided to officially appoint AFV as the Basque Foundry Cluster together with FUNDIGEX. In this collaboration AFV is the leading entity of the cluster and FUNDIGEX covers the branch of internationalisation, being also recognised as an active part of the cluster management. Basque Foundry Cluster. The Basque Foundry Cluster is made up of 89 companies of which 78% are SMEs.
