The project has been developed by GAIACWPZINNAEINNOVAEDepuración de Aguas del Mediterráneo and SASTESA and is focused on demonstrating the viability of the development and use of a digital twin for the maintenance of water cycle management infrastructures. The project belongs to the 2018 Innovative Business Groups call from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, and has been recognized with the award to the Best Intercluster Collaboration Project, during the National Cluster Congress, held on in September 19th, in Madrid. The Business Collaboration Awards are a recognition of the best initiatives of collaborative innovation.

The technologies of Digital Twin have a high added value potential for the infrastructures of the water cycle, especially for their maintenance. It is observed that its application can represent a clear increase in infrastructure efficiency, increase its availability, extend its useful life and reduce the associated maintenance and operational costs.

According to the project participants, the application of the digital twin in the water sector industry is still to be explored and, in the future, can be a differentiating aspect for the design and management of wastewater treatment plants, through the increase of the operational and management efficiency, improvement of decision making in real time and reduction of errors and response times.
